You meet an angry man? You've basically met a frightened little child.
Most of us were never taught where to put this fear- so we dump it at YOUR doorstep. Not saying it's right- just saying it is.
If you show this man kindness- and he respects that kindness- we're done talking.
If you show him kindness, and he does NOT show you respect-
YOU are done talking.
